Consultations

Whether this is your first visit to Animal Ark Veterinary Centre or you have visited us before, your pet will need a consultation. This helps us check if there are any health issues that need attention.

Consultations can be used to look into specific symptoms or injuries you have noticed. They can also be a general health check when you register your pet with us for the first time. If you have a new kitten or puppy that needs a microchip, we will book a consultation first to check them over.

consultation roomWe believe a good consultation is key to good care. During a consultation, we:

  • carry out a full physical exam

  • listen carefully to your concerns about your pet’s health

  • keep the consultation calm and relaxed

  • allow 15 minutes per consultation, which is longer than the usual standard

  • use spacious rooms with plenty of natural light

  • often use toys to help pets feel comfortable

  • help you make informed decisions

  • take the time needed to meet both your and your pet’s needs

One of our highly trained and experienced vets or nurses will welcome you into a private consultation room. We will ask for any information that may help us, such as changes in your pet’s behaviour, appetite, or daily routine.

The exact length of the consultation will depend on your pet’s individual needs. For example, a consultation for a complex skin condition may take longer than the standard time. A simpler issue that we are already familiar with may take less time.

If your pet is already registered with us, we will also review their medical records and previous history. We will then carry out a thorough physical examination, paying close attention to any areas where you may be worried there is a problem.

If the initial consultation highlights any concerns, our vets and nurses will discuss the next steps with you. This may include medication, x rays, referral to a nurse clinic, or further investigations. We will keep you fully informed at every stage.
