What is pet laser therapy?

Laser therapy (photobiomodulation) uses specific wavelengths of light (red and nearinfrared) to create therapeutic effects.

How does laser therapy work for my pet?

During each session, the laser energy produced increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimum healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain.

Does my pet need an anaesthetic?

No anaesthetic is required for laser therapy! Treatments range from between one to five minutes per area treated.

The response to the treatment can sometimes be seen as soon as twelve hours after treatment, but the effect is cumulative, and most conditions require several treatments for the greatest benefit. Most cases require up to six treatments, often delivered over three weeks.

It can be used with a multimodal approach to pet care with medication, acupuncture, physiotherapy or hydrotherapy.

Many rigorous studies have shown the benefits to a wide range of conditions that it can help including:

  • osteoarthritis
  • soft tissue injuries
  • wounds

However, it is not a cure for all; some cases can be too extreme for laser treatment. Please contact us for a consultation at Animal Ark Vets in Ilford.
