Sunshine and Generosity in Abundance at Summer Fair
The sun certainly came out for the Summer Fair and Open Day (Sunday 14 July) on what was one of the hottest days of the year.
It was so hot that holes were left in the melted road where the motorbikes from the British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF) Pet Food Run had parked.
The abundance of sun was matched by the Animal Ark community spirit and generosity, with over 50 pet food items being donated for animal charities. Over £1,500 has been raised with more to come once we get a final count from all the charities involved.
The ‘behind the scenes’ took on some new dimensions with video of actual surgery on display. Live demonstrations of Ultrasound and Hydrotherapy also captivated peoples’ attention.
In what is fast becoming a tradition, home bakers answered our call for help, producing an amazing array of cakes, pizza and jams.
Kids were kept amused with face painting and ice-creams. Big kids were kept amused with the ‘tape-measure’ competition, seeing how high they could extend the tape before toppling over.
The ‘weird and wonderful’ was on display, with Reptile Haven showing off a python snake, iguana, tarantula, gecko, scorpion and monitor lizard.
A special thank you goes to Ifti Khan of Kebabish Original and Bonnie Diamond & Coe. Ifti kindly donated the fabulously tasting chicken and vegetable pilau that everyone got to enjoy, surrounded by the dulcet tones of the live entertainment kindly donated by Diamond & Coe.
Raffle Prize Draw Winners have been notified by phone. Congratulations to our major prize winners: 1st Prize – Ipad Mini (Mrs Beard of Basildon), 2nd Prize – ‘Puppy Tails’ Hand Made Quilt (Mrs Khan of Clayhall), 3rd Prize – Big Bag of Pet Food (Mrs Zimmerman of Hornchurch).
On behalf of our furry friends we would like to say a big thank you for everyone’s support and generosity.
A day like this takes a lot of effort and preparation and it would not have been the success it was without the support provided by all those involved.
