NATURAL THERAPIES

HOMEOPATHY

“Homeopathy as a complementary remedy to assist in your pet’s overall health and well being.”

What is Homeopathy?
The principle of homeopathy is to treat like for like, using a substance which causes a symptom to be taken in a material dose to cure that symptom.

What can Homeopathy be used for?
Homeopathy can be used to treat many conditions including bowel, skin,  behaviour, lameness, hormonal, travel sickness and recurrent problems.

Homeopathic consultations!
Ilse Pedler MA VetMB VetMFHom MRCVS is our resident homeopathic vet. If you would like to make an appointment or have any questions, please contact us.

Is Homeopathy safe and can it be used along with traditional medicines?
As a general rule, yes, it is safe to take along with traditional medicines.   And as Ilse is a qualified vet, she is in a position to determine what impact, if any, remedies would have on any existing treatment plans.

Acupuncture!
Ilse also carries out acupuncture, the use of ultra-fine needles inserted into the skin on certain parts of the body.  Acupuncture has been used to induce healing in the Orient for thousands of years and can be used to treat conditions such as lameness, arthritis, hip displaysia and incontinence.

What do the consultations involve?
Consultations are tailored based upon a detailed understanding of your pet’s history.   Consultations usually last 30 minutes and most conditions require two to four consultations.

Is Homeopathy effective?
Homeopathy has been found to be successful where other forms of medicines have failed.  We believe in utilising homeopathy as a complementary addition to traditional medicines.

ACUPUNCTURE

What is Acupuncture?
It is a system of healing which has been practiced by the Chinese and other Eastern cultures for thousands of years.
It involves the stimulation of specific points in the body, usually by the insertion of very fine, pre-sterilised, stainless steel needles.

How does it work?
The stimulation of the needles generates many responses within the animal's nervous and endocrine system.
It can affect muscles, and the circulatory, reproduction, digestive and urinary systems, as well as antibody production and hormone output.
Acupuncture increases the body's release of natural painkillers.

What can it be used for?
To alleviate pain, increase recovery rate and the treatment of conditions such as osteoarthritis, muscle strains and sprains, gastrointestinal disease, skin conditions, stress related disorders, and respiratory conditions.  We regard acupuncture as working in conjunction with conventional medicine, as opposed to replacing it.

How long does treatment take?
Some individuals are very responsive to acupuncture and will show dramatic improvement after one treatment.  The vast majority however will respond gradually over a period of time.
The frequency and period of treatment depends on the individual animal's needs.

Rose Pearl is a qualified veterinary surgeon and Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.  She is also a member of the Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists (ABVA).
