RCVS ACCREDITED PRACTICE - What Does It Mean?

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) regulates the veterinary profession. This includes individual veterinary surgeons and, more recently, the practices in which the veterinary team works.

Practices can become accredited under the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme, a voluntary quality assurance programme.

To be accredited, practices must pass a rigorous inspection carried out by an experienced veterinary surgeon. Areas covered include hygiene, health and safety, and the facilities and equipment provided, to name just a few of the many criteria.

  • An accredited practice is inspected every 4 years
  • It must certify annually that it continues to meet the standards
  • It may be subject to spot-checks between full inspections.

Animal Ark Veterinary Centre is proud to be an RCVS
Accredited General Practice for Small Animals

This RCVS accreditation means:

  • Peace of mind for you
  • Quality care for your animals
  • Regular inspections for the practice

As a client of an RCVS accredited practice, you can be rest assured of a high quality of care throughout the practice.

LAB EQUIPMENT UPGRADE

We are proud to announce we have upgraded our Radiography Theatre with Digital X-Ray Processing.

X-rays will still be taken in the same manner that we currently do, but the picture will be captured on 'digital plates'.  The plates are similar to the plates we used in our existing conventional system, such that we will not lose any flexibility in positioning of the patient.

CR (computed radiology) has a number of benefits over conventional chemical/film processing, including:

- Reduction in Processing Time
Potentially reducing the amount of time required for a patient to be subject to anaesthesia.

- Greater Manipulation of Raw Data
In some circumstances, instead of taking a second shot, different 'algorithms' can be applied to the same raw data providing multiple views, thereby reducing radiation exposure.

- Digital Format
Can be presented in Jpeg or dicom format and the images burned to disc or emailed.  This simplifies the process and saves time when making referrals to specialists.

Faster processing times means less anaesthesia time.
Less anaesthesia time means less risk for your pet.

PETS AS THERAPY (P.A.T.)

WHY NOT VOLUNTEER WITH YOUR PET?

P.A.T dogs come in all shapes and sizes. Whether your dog is a pedigree, a cross-breed or a mongrel, if you can spare some time on a regular basis, and if you think your dog might be suitable, you are half-way there.

One of our clients ‘‘Buster Jordan’’ is doing very well as a "Pets As Therapy" visitor at two Nursing Homes in Basildon and Brentwood.

As you can see from some of the photo's Buster gets on very well with the residents at the homes and they all look forward to seeing Buster.  It's a pleasure to take a few hours each weekend to visit the homes and see how much Buster's visit make a difference to the residents, some of which have Dementia, when Buster visits they all interact with him and smiles all round!

I would recommend to all that if you have a few hours a week or a month to visit a nursing care home, hospital, hospice, special needs school with your dog or cat, please visit www.petsastherapy.org  to find out how to become a volunteer.
