Summer Party Rocks the Neighbourhood

Posted by Lyndon Basha in Events, News | Article permalink on Jul 17 2017

We celebrated our 15th anniversary this year in colourful style with a carnival theme for our annual summer fair and open day on Sunday 16th July.

The weather was generous and, despite us competing with another local fair and the men’s Wimbledon final, hundreds of people and pets came along to join in the fun.

There was a lot on offer to entertain, from face painting to hydrotherapy demonstrations, from weird and wonderful x-rays to simulated operations on Big Ted. The crowd danced to live music from ‘The Saturlites’ and ‘Four Men and Mo’ (who donated their time) and a barbecue and bar kept everyone well fed and watered. The inaugural Dog Competition brought along dogs with extraordinarily waggy tails and some incredible tricks. It was expertly judged by Anna Karen (who played Aunt Sal in ‘Eastenders’ and Olive in ‘On the Buses’ and Gerri Staples from Ruffhaus Giant Schnauzers.

The day managed to raise £2,000 for local animal charities and Animal Ark’s Stray Fund.  Thank you to everyone for your generous support!

Baby owls melted many hearts again. Their names will be picked from your suggestions very soon and posted on our Facebook page. Many thanks to the Bixbys for bringing them along.

Many thanks to Rashna Ahmed who took the photos you see here.

As always, a day like this takes a lot of effort and preparation and it would not have been the success it was without the support provided by all those involved. On behalf of our furry friends we would like to say a big thank you for everyone’s support and generosity. Thank you and while we look forward to seeing you over the rest of the year we also hope to see you at our next event on the first Saturday in December – for Santa’s Grotto & Minced Pies.
